Amparo Pando, age 74, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Rolla, Kansas, died Friday, October 28, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born October 29, 1947, in Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Andrés and Ramona (Ortiz) Soto.

Amparo grew up in Mexico where at an early age she showed her servant’s heart by helping her mother, mother-in-law, and family. She married Eloy Pando on December 24, 1967, in Mexico. They moved to Rolla in 1974 where they raised their four children. Amparo enjoyed gardening and cooking for her loved ones. She adored her grandchildren and treasured the time she spent with them. She was an avid walker and enjoyed her early morning outings to the Rolla High School track. Her amiable personality and genuine smile made her a friend to anyone she met. Amparo was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Hugoton for 30 years. She served on the Parish Council, was a lector and Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Spanish prayer group. After she moved to Wichita in 2021, she attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wichita.

Amparo is survived by her sons, Ed Pando and wife Norma of Dodge City, and Jorge Pando of Wichita; daughters, Karla Henke and husband Jason and Patricia Cutting and husband David all of Wichita; siblings, Jesús Soto, Bertha Soto, María Elena Soto, Ofelia Soto all from Mexico, Mague Anderson from Hugoton, Andrés Soto, Graciela Soto and Manuela Soto all from Mexico; and ten grandchildren.

Amparo is preceded in death by her parents, Andrés and Ramona Soto; husband, Eloy Pando in 2021; and two brothers, Leopoldo Soto and Ricardo Soto.

Rosary will be Friday, November 4, 2022, at 6:00 PM at St. Helen Catholic Church in Hugoton. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10:00 AM at St. Helen Catholic Church in Hugoton, Kansas, with Reverend Augustine Owusu officiating. Interment will follow at the Rolla Cemetery in Rolla, Kansas. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.
