Alvin Darrell Kirkwood, 79, Ponca City, OK passed away on March 13, 2020. He was born on December 4, 1940 in Stratford, TX to Benny Kirkwood and Fern (Clinkenbeard) Kirkwood. He grew up in Dalhart, TX and eventually moved to Liberal, KS. Darrell joined the Navy in 1959 and served on USS Cadmus before being honorably discharged in 1963. He became a dispatcher for Yellow Freight and shortly after became the Director of Safety for National Carriers Truck Line. This was where he met and married his wife of 46 years, Linda. They were married on April 7, 1973. He was with the company for 33 years before retiring to Ponca City, OK. He and Linda retired to Ponca City to be near the WATER so he could finally fish as much as he wanted. Fishing was his life, next to his family! Where there was water, that’s where you find Darrell. He loved being close enough to Wichita to see his grandchildren and also be able to fish, fish, fish! He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda (Howard) Kirkwood; daughters Michelle Strong (Sam), Optima, OK; Linda Ann Kirkwood, Liberal, KS; Annette (Kirkwood) Wilson (Matt), Wichita, KS; granddaughters Molly, Ella, and Allie Wilson; sisters Arlene Hacker, Phyllis Johnson, Becky Smyth along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benny and Fern Kirkwood.
Darrell chose a full body donation for scientific research, so there will be no memorial or viewing.
