Alma Jean (Shiflett) Ogden

Alma Jean (Shiflett) Ogden, 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 in Enumclaw, Washington. Riley Francis and Almurta Ross Shiflett gave birth to 10 children, Alma was the 4th. She was born in Atoka County near Hardwood, Oklahoma on March 5th, 1929.

She graduated from Goodwell (Oklahoma) High School while taking concurrent college classes. Three years later she completed her college work at Panhandle A & M. At age 19 Alma began teaching high school English in Texhoma, Oklahoma. She obtained a Masters in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma. Alma was young when she married a Texan, Ralph Carl Ogden, II (Carl) on August 24, 1947.
Alma, a teacher at heart, was a teacher/librarian for 36 years at Hermosa Junior High in Farmington, New Mexico. During her tenure she was asked to help design, build, and run the new library. Because of her efforts and dedication to the library, it was named Alma J. Ogden Library in her honor.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ina Lasiter and Marjorie Bingham, brother John, husband Carl, and grandsons David Ogden and Chris DeAguero. Alma is survived by her children: Londa Ogden, Ralph C. Ogden III and wife Joni, Karon and husband Cecil DeAguero, and Kevin Ogden, 7 grandchildren: Nathan Jeffrey, Katrina Kippen, Aaron Linde, Samantha Smith, Daniel Ogden, Alexandra Restrepo, and Carrie Deguero, 15 great grandchildren, sisters Berdine Rawlins, Mabel Tabor, Emma and R.D. Schultz, Lucy and Bob McKnight, brothers Curtis and Betty Shiflett and Don and Lyn Shiflett, and brother-in-law Perry Bingham.
Alma’s passion was learning; reading was her favorite past time. She will be remembered for her love of children and family . . . and her dogs, especially Pomeranians. She was kind hearted, a faithful church member, and loved people and God. Everyone who knew her loved and respected her. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 11th in the Goodwell (Oklahoma) Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Ok.
