Alice M. Rider

Alice M. Rider, age 93, of Ulysses, Kansas died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at The Legacy at Park View in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born January 27, 1920 in Evansville , Indiana , the daughter of George and Josephine (Paul) Doerr.

Alice , a homemaker and farm wife, married George “Ralph” Rider on April 3, 1948 in Evansville , Indiana . They moved to their farm in rural Grant County, Kansas in 1948. In 1980, they moved to town. Alice enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafting, embroidering, and playing bingo at The Legacy. She was a member of the Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Goff and husband Keith, Janet Curl and husband Jack, Mari Honstead and husband Todd all of Ulysses, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Carol Rider of Ulysses, Kansas; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Rider on November 25, 2000; and son, David Rider; brother, Albert Doerr; and two sisters, Helen Wargel and Lorene Dunkel.

Vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Reverend Peter Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow at the Shockey Cemetery in rural Grant County, Kansas. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to The Legacy at Park View in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave , Ulysses , KS 67880 .
