Alfreda Dawson

Alfreda Dawson, 87, died Monday, January 2, 2023, at her residence in Turpin, Oklahoma.

She was born on December 15, 1935, in Winona, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Christina (Albers) Schiltz.
She attended and graduated from Grinnell High School in Grinnell, Kansas.

On December 11, 1954, she married Neil Allen Dawson in Grinnell. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2016.
Alfreda worked in the sheet metal division of Beech Aircraft, for 13 years and then as a CNA, CMA, and driver for the Liberal Good Samaritan Society for 5 years.

Alfreda grew up on a farm and enjoyed plowing and cutting crops along with other chores such as caring for the livestock. She loved her dogs and was very fond of spoiling them.
She liked to bowl and go dancing with her beloved husband. Together with her husband Neil, they spent many hours building and remodeling their home. She enjoyed life and had many friends. Her family was her greatest joy , especially her grandkids.

She is survived by her son, Terry Lee Dawson, of Liberal, Kansas.

Carla Brechbuhler and her husband Alex of Hugoton, Kansas
Gail Brechbuhler and her husband Kenton of College Station, Texas
Sandra Stapp and her husband Robert of Danbury, Nebraska
Christine Timmer and her husband Joseph of Turpin, Oklahoma

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil, her parents, her son, Neil Dawson Jr., Grandson Tommy Perkins, great grandson Jeffrey Nichols, Brother Robert Schiltz and his wife Pauline, Sister Phyllis Richardson and her husband Earl, Mother-in-law Amert Dawson and sister-in-law Marilyn Rackow and her husband Glenn, Nephews Kevin, and Doug Rackow, Great Nephew Dustin Richardson.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, KS 67901. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM at the funeral home chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 6, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1510 North Calhoun Avenue in Liberal, with Reverend Juan Salas Celebrating the Mass. Burial to follow at Liberal Cemetery.
