Alfred Mitchell

Alfred W. Mitchell, Sr., 74, Liberal, KS, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011
at his home.

He was born July 18, 1936 at Walnut Grove, AR, the son of Walter
& Emma Johnson Mitchell.

He came to Liberal in 1963 and worked as a mechanic for Hood
Chevrolet, later working for Yellow Freight Systems, Becker Trucking
and Northern Natural Gas. He enjoyed building things and being
a handyman.

He was a member of the Loving Mount Calvary Baptist Church Muskogee, OK and had served as deacon, Douglas A. Smith Masonic Lodge #117, Liberal, KS.

On June 9, 1956, he married Pearly Mae Warren at Dumas, AR
they later divorced. He then married Earnett Racy, she survives.

He is survived by five sons, Alfred Mitchell, El Paso, TX;
Sylvester Mitchell, Detroit, MI; Larry Mitchell, Russell, KS;
Alexis Mitchell, Arlington, TX; Aljalon Atkinson and wife
Cherri, Kansas City, KS; four daughters, Shirley Love and Robert,
Liberal, KS; Dorothy Williams and husband Walter, Liberal, KS;
Lorean McAdoo and husband Raymond, Birmingham, AL;
Iverria Vincent and husband Gilford, Liberal, KS; one brother,
Levi Mitchell, Muskogee, OK; seven sisters, Cora Hewings, Milwaukee, WI; Edith Mitchell, Detroit, MI; Effie Dean Mitchell-Horton,
Milwaukee, WI; Ophelia Mitchell, Milwaukee, WI; Katherine
Mitchell-Riggs, El Paso, TX; Olevia Mitchell-Chaney, Lancaster, CA;
Annie Mae Mitchell, Los Angels, CA; nine grandchildren,
ninteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the
Bibleway Church of God in Christ, with Elder Lawrence Johnson
presiding.

Interment will be in the Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Miller Mortuary 5-8 P.M. Thursday, 9 A.M.-8 P.M. Friday.
