Alba M. Crawford

Alba M. Crawford Wayland, age 107, died Friday, July 20, 2012 at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas with her family by her side. She was born June 13, 1905 in La Plata, Missouri the daughter of Thomas and Ella Mae (Johnson) Mason.

Alba grew up in La Plata and moved with her family to Kansas her senior year of high school. She married Roy Crawford on November 26, 1925 in Guymon, Oklahoma. They moved to Stevens County in 1928 and began farming. Alba helped with the farming and raising their family. Roy died in July of 1949. Alba married Arnold Wayland on May 11, 1950. She worked at the hospital as a nurse’s aide and cooked at the school. Arnold died in July 1982. Alba enjoyed doing ceramics, baking and traveling. She crocheted afghans for her family and friends. At 90 years of age she crocheted tablecloths for her two daughters. Alba was a social person and enjoyed square dancing. She was very patriotic in honoring those that served our nation in the military. Alba’s life centered around her grandchildren in her later years. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Unit, Grange, Rebekah Lodge, and Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters; Velda Anderson and husband Larry of Ulysses, Kansas, Norma Stoddard and husband Ralph of Hugoton, Kansas, 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 59 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and four sons.

Funeral service will be held Monday, July 23, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton, Kansas with Pastor Eric Mason officiating. Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, Kansas. Friends may call Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton. Memorial contributions may be given in lieu of flowers to the Christian Heritage Academy in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.
