Nita Gay (Littrell) Baker, 76, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at her residence in Hugoton, Kansas, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 6, 1945 at Liberal, Kansas to Garnet Fontell (Burditt) and Ira Carl Littrell. She married Leonard Baker on September 19, 1964 at Hugoton, Kansas.
Throughout her life, Nita worked at many different jobs, including a stint as a Dart-In manager and as a cook at Hugoton Middle and High Schools. During her tenure at USD 210, Nita was known to occasionally sneak “forbidden” sweet treats to her grandsons and their friends, cementing her place in the memories of many students.
Nita loved living life to the fullest and spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite pastime was probably taking countless trips to casinos where she’d treat her guests, usually family, to a nice dinner and a few bets in exchange for a ride and some laughs.
Nita is survived by Holly Thomas of Watauga, TX; grandchildren, Lance Mantzke and wife Crystal of Hugoton, KS, Tyler Mantzke and wife Casey of Amarillo, TX, Amanda Elmore and husband Christopher of Haslet, TX, and Darcy Odean and husband Justin of Fort Worth, TX; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Rebecca Claggett and husband Richard of Amarillo, TX, and Jacqueline Best of Pratt, KS; a brother, Otha “O. D.” Littrell and wife Sylvis of Hugoton, KS; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Deal, Sr. of Laverne, OK.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Baker; a daughter, LuCinda Mantzke; twin sister, Nada Gail Deal; and a brother-in-law, Robert Best.
There will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place.
Graveside service will be 11:00 am on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at the Hugoton Cemetery.
