Navarro Ready for Another Run
KSCB News - October 23, 2012 2:00 pm
Liberal’s only head boys soccer coach in the program’s history knows what it takes. Navarro has led the Redskins to historic levels with trips to the "final four" in nine of the past 10 seasons, a state championship last year, and 11 straight state WAC titles. But this was a season Lori Navarro has often mentioned but never experienced, a rebuilding year. The Redskins have only reloaded. But this year Liberal limped to a 2-6 WAC finish and a 7-8-1 overall record. They needed an upset win at Dodge City to even earn a home game in the first round of the 5A playoffs. LHS is the eight seed out of 16 teams in the Southwest Regional hosting nine seeded Hays at 6 p.m. Tuesday night at the Cornelsen Sports Complex.
Navarro says Liberal has struggled in the areas of offense and senior leadership. But she says there is reason for optimism. LHS has won four of their last five including a Wichita North Cup title. They are battle tested. They have played all 6A teams other than the four WAC games against Great Bend and Hays.
