Liberal High School is excited to announce that one of our own, Senior Nikki Gill, has qualified as a semi-finalist for the National Merit Scholarship Award. Nikki is the daughter of Dr. Varinder Gill and Mrs. Raminder Gill.
Nikki is a member of Key Club, the Student Advisory Group, and National Honors Society; she has given three Dowell Lectures; and is on the Swim Team and Scholars Bowl Team. Over the past three years she has shadowed four different doctors as well as the Seward County Health Department; volunteered at Mosaic Home for the Intellectually Challenged, Wheatridge Nursing Home, and the Seward County Health Fair; and has attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. Recently, Nikki spent the summer researching the effects of vitamin D on inflammation caused by the NLRP3 gene in human leukemia monocytes at University of Missouri in Kansas City. This year, she is researching how different extracurriculars factor into student engagement in school. In the future, Nikki plans to become a neurosurgeon and study genetics.
