The trial of a southwest Kansas man
accused of raping and killing a 16-year-old girl has again been
delayed.
Nineteen-year-old Joaquin De Anda, of Garden City, is charged
with first-degree murder, rape and aggravated criminal sodomy in
the death of Julia Quintana. The body of the Deerfield girl was
found in December 2008 in a trash bin behind a Garden City home
where the suspect had previously lived.
De Anda had been scheduled to go on trial March 22 in Finney
County District Court. But The Garden City Telegram reported
Tuesday the trial has been rescheduled for July 7.
Prosecutors supported a defense motion for the continuance,
saying in part there were issues with getting some scientific
testing done.
De Anda was originally scheduled to be tried in June 2010.
