Multiple Fatalities in Early Morning Crash in Beaver County

A fatality accident occurred Monday morning at approximately 4:35 am on US-83, 3/4 of a mile north of the Texas state line in Beaver County, approximately 7.5 miles north of Perryton, TX.

A 2008 Ford F150 pickup driven by Brett Edwards Philen, 42 of Murchison, TX, was southbound on 83 Highway and a 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Clemente Velez, 53 of Perryton, TX, was northbound on US 83. For an unknown reason, Philen went left of center, entering the northbound lane of the roadway and struck the Velez head-on. All occupants of Velez’ vehicle were pinned in the Camry.

Brett Edward Philen was transported by ambulance to Ochiltree General Hospital in Perryton where he was pronounced deceased by hospital personnel.

Clemente Velez, and passengers in his vehicle, Esther Espino Puentes, of Perryton, Griselda Lomas De Velez, of Perryton, and Maria Ernesti Velez Mendoza, of Perryton were all pronounced deceased at the scene and transported by Clark Funeral Services to their facility in Beaver.
