Morrow’s Historic Night Not Enough for Seward

Sierra Morrow had a night. She tied Jamie Talbert with 39 points in a game which is fourth most in SCCC history. She made 15 free throws in a game which ties Vaida Zagurskyte’ for third most in SCCC history. But it wasn’t enough at #16 Hutchinson beat the Lady Saints 73-72 as Seward falls into third place in the Jayhawk West.
Hutch grabbed an early lead as SCCC fouls helped the Lady Dragons parade to the foul line. HCC led 11-6 and 16-8 before Seward rallied and trailed 16-15 and 18-15 after one quarter. The Lady Saints took a brief 23-22 lead before the Lady Dragons used a 9-0 run to lead 31-23. Hutchinson led 39-30 at halftime. Hutch led 42-31 early in the second half. SCCC cut the lead to three at 46-43 with 2:45 to play. The Lady Dragons led 51-45 after three quarters. Seward cut the lead to 51-50. Hutch led 53-50 before Seward’s 11-0 run to lead 61-53 with 6:32 to play. Hutch quickly used a 6-0 run to make it 61-59. Seward led 63-59 with 4:55 to play. Hutch took the lead 64-63 with 4:36 to play. Hutch grabbed four point leads of 67-63 and 69-65. Seward made it a 70-67 game with 2:05 remaining. Hutch led 72-67 with 49.4 seconds left. Sanaa Smith buried a three to make it 72-70 with 45.4 to go. Sierra Lynch’s lay up tied the score at 72-72. A foul called against Seward with .7 left gave Hutchinson’s Ishante Suttington a two free throws with .7 left. She made the first and purposely missed the second.
Hutchinson wins at Seward for a second straight year and third straight time overall. Seward falls into third at 7-3 while Hutch is in first at 10-2. Barton is 8-3. Seward hosts Northwest Tech Wednesday night at 6 with Saints Shootaround at 5:45 on 107.5 and kscbnews.net.
