The Kansas State Fire Marshal (KSFM) Office released more information regarding a deadly fire in Hugoton.

The fire marshal’s office said three special agents and certified fire investigators were sent to investigate the fire that happened on Monday at a shed that belonged to the City of Hugoton’s electrical department.

“The fire incident is still under investigation and is believed to be related to an overpressure event from natural gas,“ said the fire marshal’s office. ”No foul play is suspected.”

Identification is pending and an autopsy is scheduled to help determine the official cause of death, according to the fire marshal’s office.

The City of Hugoton said it is still providing electric service for Hugoton electric customers with the help of Pioneer Electric and Southern Pioneer Electric.

Service orders or requests should be made to the City of Hugoton during business hours at 620-544-8531 or after hours at 620-544-2478.
