Midwest Plains Regional Begins Today

Liberal is hosting the 10-year old Midwest Plains Regional Tournament this weekend. The tournament begins today at Rosel Field and concludes Tuesday morning. Yesterday evening the eight teams gathered at Bluebonnet Park. Members of the Liberal Bee Jays were introduced and Mayor Joe Denoyer spoke to the 10-year olds and their parents. Billy’s catered a meal. The Midwest Plain Commisioner for the 10-year old age group Skip Ruedeman says he’s impressed with Liberal. “So far from what I’ve seen from Liberal is just great in terms of participation in the tournament,” Ruedeman said.

The teams come from Ottawa; Sikeston, Missouri; Scottsbluff, Nebraska; La Junta, Colorado; Mount Pleasant, Iowa; Fargo, North Dakota; Waite Park, Minnesota; Yankton, South Dakota; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and the Cimarron River Rattlers from Liberal. The first game begins today at noon. The opening ceremonies are tonight at 6:30 with the Cimarron River Rattler playing at 7:15 against Waite Park, Minnesota.
