The Apache eighth-graders took on Dodge City Comanche Thursday evening at
Seymour Rogers Middle School. The Apaches took on the league’s best team in
Comanche as well as the league’s best player in DeAndre Reese. The Apaches
fell 16-53. Despite the loss, George Tejeda registered one of the greatest
defensive performances in SRMS history shutting down Reese and holding him
to 0 points. Jovanni Garcia led the Apaches with five points and also
locked Reese down for a three-minute stretch in the contest. The Apaches
will travel to Guymon Tuesday shooting for their first regular season and
career victory.
*7A from Coach Kachel*
SRMS 7th A lost their final home game of the season to the visiting Dodge
City Comanches 28-36. The Apaches fell behind 9-10 after one quarter and
14-18 at half. In the second half the Apaches fell behind by 16 points but
made a big run in the 4th quarter but couldn’t finish on top. Hudson Rice
was the leading scorer with 10 points and Jakyree Washington had 9.
*7B from Coach Richards – *
The boys 7th B team played a hard won game tonight with the entire team
contributing. Brian Gallegos despite 4 fouls, played the best defense of
his season causing many turnovers and rebounding in key moments of the
game. Alex Korerner and Eric Valenzuela played their best defenses games
as well and caused the team to turn over too. On offense, despite a
bloody nose, Junior King stepped up big tonight and was able to help the
team run the offense like never before. Abel Aguirre was the lead scorer
with 8 points and had his best night on offense, Deangelo Denton had 6
points, Alexis Gallindo had his best night driving the ball to the hoop on
offense with 8 points as well Junior King had 5, Angel Soto came in with a
clutch 2 point shot in the third quarter, and the team did much better on
free throws tonight. Great win tonight going into next week.
Seymour Rogers Middle School 8th grade B team came out flat against Dodge
City Comanche. They were out scored 4-0 in the 1st period and trailed
Comanche, 14-2 going into the half. The Apaches woke up in the 2nd half
behind an aggressive full court press which was lead by Gianni Calvillo,
Isaac Dominguez, and Alejandro Pando all of which came on after not
playing in the 1st half. Alejandro Gutiererez lead the offensive come
back for the Apaches, by scoring 11 points in the 2nd half, including a
buzzer beater 3 to send the game to overtime time at 23 apiece.
Unfortunately, the Apaches ran out of gas in overtime, losing on a Comanche
lay up at the horn. Comanche beats the Apaches, 25-23.
