10-3-24: Great Bend-Write Up
From Coach Toney –
The Apaches went on the road to face the Great Bend Panthers this week.
The 7th grade Apaches took the long haul to Great Bend this week. The first half had a slow start with both defenses holding strong through the majority of the half. The Apaches were able to break free late in the second half when Aiden Aragon came loose on a counter to run in a 95 yard Touchdown to take the lead 6-0. Uriel Tarango added to the lead with an up the middle dive for the 2 point conversion making the score 8-0. Kaden Olvera came up big on defense with an Interception to stop a potential scoring drive for the Panthers. Kaden Olvera was able to capitalize on this takeaway with a sweep of his own to score and put the Apaches up 14-6. The Apaches held strong defensively to stop a game tying 2 point conversion late in the game. The final score was 16-14 for an Apaches win.
The 8th grade Apaches came out strong on offense driving the ball deep into Panther territory. A few miscues and costly penalties cost them from scoring in the first half. Multiple deep passes by Xaadin Navarro, Allan Rios, and Carlos Romero highlighted the Apaches offense for the night. The defense held strong but were caught off guard by multiple trick plays from the Panthers. The Apaches stayed strong and fought to the end of the game; however, fell short dropping a tough one on the road 12-0.
