April 21st greeted the SRMS track team with darkness and cold. The SRMS track team clambered aboard the bus and left at 6:30 am with quiet excitement. The SRMS track team brought home 14 medals. Here is how the medals were earned:
7th girls shot put earned 4th and 5th to bring in points for the girls’ team
4th Odette Ortega and 5th Everett Dean
7th girls distance had a stellar performance, 3200 m 2nd place Yatzira Nunez, 3rd Danna Ortega, and bringing in points with 4th was Bella Patel. (2)
Yatzira Nunez went to 2nd in 1600m (1)
Maliha Navarro earned 2nd in the 200 m hurdles at 35.19 (1)
7th boys Chris Marin took 3rd in long jump 16 feet 2 inches, followed by a 3rd in the 400m dash. (2)
8th girls fought hard and represented Seymour Rogers with honor.
8th boys weighted down the bus, Ben Brockett earned 2nd in the 1600m at 5:31.36 and came back to take 3rd in the 800 m at 2:30.98. (2)
The 4 x100 had a blistering pace at 50:67 with Juan Diego, Mario Mancilla, Gerardo Mercado, and Isaac Gonzalez to earn the 3rd medal. (4)
Gerardo Mercado brought home 3rd in the 200m at 26.33 (1)
Alejandro Rendon threw shot put for a 3rd at 39 feet 8 inches (1)
The team rankings were as such : both Seymour Rogers Middle School track teams earned 7th place out of 9. Boys : 54 pts Girls : 52
The SRMS Apaches travel to Scott City, Kansas to compete on Apr 25, 2023.

Garden City Track Meet 4/17/23
Garden City track meet started off chilly and warmed up throughout the day.
This early morning had some athletes missing the bus, but the ones that
made it adjusted and performed wherever they were asked. The athletes
learned the value of sunscreen, shade, hydration and nourishment.
Viviana placed 3rd in the 7th grade girls 1600 meter run and Ashley
Vizcarra placed first in the 8th grade girls 3200. Christopher Marin took
the lead to medal with 1st place in both the 7th grade boys 200 meter dash
and 400 meter dash. Gerardo Mercado received his own medals at 3rd in the
8th grade boys 100 meter dash and 1st place in the 8th grade boys long jump
with 17’ 3”. Alex Gutierrez showed his speed and endurance to place 3rd in
the 7th grade boys 1600 meter run.
