7A from Coach Olvera –

The Seymour Rogers 7th Grade Basketball A-team had their first league game on Thursday against DCMS. The Apaches started off the season with great energy as they tried to create opportunities to score against the Cardinals in an attempt to get the win. In the first quarter, Prince Collins scored the first two points by driving in for a layup. The Apaches played great defense and offense throughout the game. In the second quarter, the Apaches started to slow down a little bit which left the score 5-12 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Apaches started to press the Cardinals which allowed the Apaches to come back and have the score be 17-19 at the end of the third quarter. The Apaches kept playing with great effort by trying to find more opportunities to score and get the victory. However, the game ended 22-35 in favor of the Cardinals.

7B from Coach Shelby –
The 7th grade SRMS B opened their 2023 season against Dodge City Middle School on Thursday night. The Apaches struggled to break the press all night, but played hard until the end, losing 34 to 4. Adrian Solis and Jesus Molina led SRMS in scoring with 2 points a piece.

8A from Coach Sniff –
The Apaches 8th grade A team took on Dodge City Middle School yesterday for their first game of the season. Although the score ended up 47 to 24 with the Apaches losing their season opener, the team looked good. They kept the game close and competed well through the first half going into half only down 10. The second half Dodge City pulled away as the Apache offense struggled to score. The Apaches were led by Emmanuel Sepulveda with 5 points, Abraham Ruiz with 7 points, and Iker Favila with 9. They will look to rebound from the loss when they take on Garden City Horace Good Next Thursday.

8B from Coach Castanon –
The Seymour Rogers 8th grade basketball B-team kicked off their season on Thursday against Dodge City Middle School. The boys started the first quarter a little slow. However, their defense kept them close. In the second and third quarters, the game got away from us. We had a couple of kids who got hurt mid-game and DCMS capitalized on us turning the ball over. They finished the game strong going on a 6-0 run starting the fourth quarter. They finished the game with good energy. There are definitely some areas we need to improve on, however, I was encouraged by the way the team finished the game. Final Score 40-18
