Meade won their third state football championship Saturday in Hays 20-14 over Pittsburg Colgan. Meade put up 294 yards on 76 snaps while holding Colgan’s high flying offense to 179 yards on 32 snaps. At one point in the first half, the Buffaloes (12-1) ran 32 plays compared to Colgan’s one. But Colgan actually struck first when they blocked a punt for a touchdown. Jaden Friesen answered with a 17 yard run as the Buffs put togetther a 13 play 80 yard drive to make it 8-7. MHS led 14-7 at halftime after a one yard run by Kellen Hernandez which capped a 14 play 61 yard drive. Meade make the state title look like a reality with a 10 minute drive amassing 76 yards on 20 plays to make it 20-7 after a Hernandez eight yard run. Colgan scored on a fumble recovered in the endzone with 1:52 remaining. Meade wins in head coach Scott Moshier’s 5th year at the school. He is 49-10 as head coach.
