Liberal, Kansas – Seward County Women’s Basketball Head Coach Will Marchino has announced a new addition to his 2024-25 staff with the hiring of Marc Ellis who rejoins the Lady Saints after serving as a volunteer assistant during the 2021-22 season.

Ellis returns to Seward County after spending two years with Rocky Mountain College as an Assistant Coach for their program where he coached alongside the 2022 NAIA Coach of the Year in Wes Keller. In 2023 he helped lead the Battlin’ Bears to the 2nd Round of the NAIA National Tournament while getting Rocky Mountain to as high as the 10th ranked team in the country at the NAIA level. Through two years Ellis coached a plethora of high-level players including All-Americans, All-Conference selections, and even the programs all-time leader in points: Kloie Thatcher.

Before coaching at Rocky Mountain, Ellis spent the 2021-22 season in Liberal with the Lady Saints where Seward County went 22-10 overall with a 17-7 record in KJCCC action with four wins over Top 25 opponents and advanced to the semi-finals of the Region VI Tournament.

Prior to his first stint in Liberal, Kansas, Ellis began his coaching career at Grand View University where he helped lead the school to their first ever NAIA National Tournament in 2018 as a graduate assistant. Following his time as a grad assistant, he then moved into a full-time position in the 2019-20 season where he helped lead Grand View to their first ever Top 25 ranking in the national polls.

Ellis earned his Associate’s Degree at Highland Community College, a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education at Wartburg University, and received a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Grand View University in 2019.
