LWC Has 12 Qualify for State

Kansas USA Wrestling held their District tournaments this past weekend. District 4 had their tournament in Hays, KS at the Gross Memorial Coliseum on March 7 and 8.

There were 1,353 wrestlers in attendance over the two days. Liberal Wrestling Club took 30 wrestlers to compete and had 12 qualify to advance to State in Topeka March 14-16.

Liberal had 3 District 4 champions for this year. They were Jason Fraire, 8U 125 pounds,
1 pin; Jacobie Fraire, 10U 170 pounds, 1 tech fall and 2 pins; and JJ Mata, 10U 190 pounds.

“These three boys always work hard and we are so proud of their accomplishments throughout the year!” coach Krista Holcomb said.

The top 4 finishers are able to advance to the State tournament. Those also qualifying
were:

Sofia Torres, 10U girls 70 pounds, 4th place, 1 pin

Joel Baeza, 10U 170 pounds, 4th place
Elias Holcomb, 12U 110 pounds, 4th place, 3 pins

Lill Osborn, 14U 95 pounds, 3rd place, 1 tech fall and 1 pin

AC Gomez, 14U 145 pounds, 2nd place, 1 pin
Zayden Norez, 14U 205 pounds, 2nd place, 1 pin

Keirsie Carlile, HS girls 100 pounds, 2nd place

Isabela Gutierrez, HS girls 110 pounds, 3rd place, 2 pins

Brian Casas, HS 113 pounds, 3rd place
