On Saturday, January 18, two members of Liberal Wrestling Club traveled to Ellis, KS for
the annual Ellis Open tournament.
Easton Lopez, 6U, took first place in the 37 pound bracket. He had 3 pins for the day
with times of 2:25, 1:50 and as quick as 20 seconds. Lopez also had a tech fall in 1:21, which
was number 6 for the fastest tech fall in the tournament. “Easton is really doing great for our
team. His dad is a very dedicated dad and coach and this shows through Easton’s skill level at
such a young age. We are very proud of him and can’t wait to see how the rest of his season
goes,” coach Krista Holcomb said.
Kendall Mosttler, 6U, took 5th on Saturday in a bracket where she was the only girl. She
had one pin for the day and her time was 11 seconds, which was the fourth fastest pin of the
day. “Kendall’s mom said she (Kendall) is pretty proud of that pin and I don’t blame her. She is
new to our club and we are so happy to have her on our team. She works very hard and is very
mature for her age,” Holcomb said.
Liberal Wrestling Club has a strong showing of 6U kids this season. “We have combined
practices with ages 4 through middle school age currently. Sometimes the littles get lost in the
crowd. This season we have a great group of dads that have stepped in to coach and they really
focus on the 6U kids since that is where their wrestlers are. It has helped us out tremendously.
We are very grateful for them!” Holcomb stated.
Most of the team took the weekend off and will be back at it this weekend in Cimarron for
the Gray County Kids Wrestling Tournament.
