INMAN, Kan. (AP) – An organization that educates people about
Kansas has announced the results of its latest contest.
The Kansas Sampler Foundation says the “8 Wonders of Kansas
Customs” are things that are “uniquely Kansas.”
Winners include the state’s unusual fencing. In parts of Kansas
where trees are scarce, pioneers made buildings and fence posts out
of limestone. The foundation notes that there are fence posts at
the Post Rock museum in La Crosse and throughout the Smoky Hills in
the north-central part of the state.
The state’s “Wizard of Oz” connection also received notice.
The foundation mentioned attractions in Wamego and Liberal that
tell the story of the 1939 film classic.
