Liberal’s cross country teams has some stored up energy. After their first meet was canceled at Great Bend last week, LHS opens the season Thursday at Hesston. Tyson McGuire steps in to coach the boys after LHS won three straight WAC titles and took third at state last year. LHS 2004 graduate Katie Kline will coach the girls after assisting Cheri Beavis last year.

The boys varsity lineup includes seniors Fidel Munoz, Eric Minjarez, and Garret Allaman. The junior on varsity is Marco Espinoza and sophomore Angel Viveros and freshmen Obed Quintana and Cesar Flores make up the varsity at this point.

The girls are younger and less proven but have great potential. Destyni Lucero is a junior and is backed up by sophomores Mercy Perez, McKenzie Wright, and Kim Francis. Freshmen Alexandria Chandler, Janette Borunda, and Vanessa DeLeon round out the varsity.

The Hesston meet however goes class by class and is scored differently than most meets.

Coaches McGuire and Kline will be guests during the Thursday Sportsguys between 7:37 and 9 on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
