Liberal Wrestling Club traveled to Topeka for a three day tournament this past weekend.
Club members who attended the tournament were Keirsie Carlile, Isabela Gutierrez, Jayden Heronemus, Hayleen Martinez, Alex Rodriguez and Sofia Torres.
The high school girls wrestled on Friday. Carlile wrestled at 100 and went 3-3 to place sixth at State. Gutierrez wrestled at 105 and went 3-1 to take a second place finish at the State competition. Martinez wrestled at 190 and went 4-2 to place fifth in the state.
Torres wrestled Saturday morning and went 2-1. This qualified her to wrestle on Sunday for an overall record of 2-3 and a sixth place finish for 8U girls 60.
Heronemus and Rodriguez fell short of placing in the top six but showed up for some hard competition and represented our club very well.
Coach Bill Holcomb said, “We are very proud of the way these six individuals represented our club. The club is still making its way back to full strength and we are looking forward to a great Folkstyle season next year with even more qualifying for State.”
Liberal Wrestling Club Folkstyle season has come to an end but will be starting their Freestyle season this Spring. Youth Freestyle is developing in the state of Kansas and the club is hoping to add to this progress.
