The Western Athletic Conference Track and Field Meet was at Dodge City’s Memorial Stadium on Thursday evening on a cool 50 degree day.  Liberal’s teams both finished last.

Boys- 1. Dodge City 96 2. Garden City 82 3. Great Bend 72  and Hays 72.  5. Liberal 53

Girls- 1. Dodge City 136.33  2. Garden City 80   3. Great Bend 67   4. Hays 51.66   5. Liberal 38

Coach Trace Haskell’s Comments:

“Going into the meet today we knew we would have our hands full to
avoid placing last. On the boys side we were projected to finish last with
only around 28 points. We also knew Syris Dunlap would change that.
Fortunately for us, he did. If the baseball game wouldn’t have been moved
he would been able to jump and add to his points total. Malcom Witshire and
Josh Arafol also had some awesome surprises. even though we finished last I
am pleased with our effort and push to try to keep from finishing last. The
kids ran with guts.
On the girls side we had a better chance of cracking into the top 3 but due
to injuries that have haunted us from the past we fell apart. We still had
some positives. We are young but we got to get healthy to have a chance to
compete for 1,2, or 3rd. The Girls have so much potential, we must keep
working and getting better.”
