Liberal Splits with Cimarron On Soggy Night

On a dreary night at the National Beef Sports Complex, Liberal and Cimarron split a baseball double header.  The games were moved to Liberal because of rain in Cimarron.  The Redskins pitched it well to win game one 5-2 and struggled with seven errors on defense in a 16-11 loss in game two.

In game one, both teams scored in the first with the wind blowing in and misty conditions and a temperature in the lower 50’s.  The Redskins scored four in the second.  The Bluejays scored one in the third.  The Redskins out-hit the Bluejays 6-4.  Cimarron had four errors and Liberal had one.  Marco Alonso pitched 2 and 2/3 allowing two runs with five strikeouts and four walks.  Bentlee Betts worked a scoreless inning.  Blayden Betts pitched 3 and 1/3 scoreless innings.  The Redskins won despite walking 11 hitters.

The Redskins wished they could have hit the re-start button in game two.  Cimarron scored eight in the first and three in the second due to Liberal miscues on defense.  None of the 11 runs were earned.  LHS had a little bit better game offensively scoring one in the first, two in the second,  and one in the third to make it 11-4.  Cimarron scored two in the fifth to lead 13-4.  The Redskins crept closer with three in the fifth to make it 13-7.  But Cimarron scored three in the seventh to lead 16-7.  Liberal’s rally in the seventh fell short with four runs.  The game was played in light rain.  Cimarron out-hit LHS 10-8.  Liberal had seven errors and Cimarron had five.  Blayden Betts was 2-3 in the loss.  Marco Alonso drove home two runs.  Alex Schwindt pitched four innings allowing 13 runs but none were earned.  Austin Dodge pitched a scoreless inning.

Cimarron is 10-6.  Liberal falls to 6-12.  The Redskins play at Great Bend Tuesday night at about 6pm on 1270 and 92.3.
