Liberal Softball Snaps 65 Game WAC Losing Streak

The streak is over.  The Liberal softball team won their first WAC softball game since 2012 Tuesday night at Dodge City.  LHS won game one over Dodge City 1-0.  Dodge City took game two 12-8.  It was Liberal’s first softball win in the WAC since May 8, of 2012 on a field in Liberal which no longer exists.

Sophomore pitcher Jenna Ormiston and her defense broke the streak.  Ormiston pitched the distance with 10 strikeouts and two walks allowing just five hits.  She also hit a home run for Liberal’s run.  Liberal was 0-8 in the WAC from 2013-2019 before an expanded WAC schedule this season saw LHS at 0-9.

In game two, Ormiston hit another home run but it wasn’t enough in a 12-8 loss.  The Red Demons got off to a good start scoring three in the first and five in the second as Liberal changed pitchers after Ormiston went 1 and 2/3 and tossed 55 pitches.  Milly McClure pitched 4 and 1/3.  But Liberal’s bats came alive with four in the third and one in the fourth and fifth to close the DCHS lead to 8-6.  The Demons scored four in the sixth to make it 12-6 and LHS scored two in the seventh.  Jenna Ormiston was 2-4 with three RBI’s and a homer.  Eyleen Vasquez was 2-4 and Leilani Torres was 2-3.  Ren Watt drove home two runs.

Liberal is 7-12 overall and 1-10 in the WAC.  Liberal hosts Dodge City for Senior Day Thursday at 5:30 at  the National Beef Family Sports Complex.
