On Thursday, August 21, 2014, the Liberal Police Department received a report of sexual abuse of child. A 39 year old male reported his child had been touched inappropriately by a 51 year old male. Two additional victims were identified through the investigation.

Investigators arrested the 51 year old Michael Butler of Liberal in connection with this case. Butler made first appearance in Seward County District Court on one case August 22. There is a charge of one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. He made appearance on a separate case August 26. There is a charge of 24 counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. He is in the Seward County Jail with a 500 thousand dollar cash or surity bond.

He will appear in court September 8 at 8:30 a.m. for scheduling for a trial date for both cases.
