Liberal Loses More than a Game Against Garden City

KSCB News - October 9, 2013 7:15 am

Garden City used the wind to their advantage in the second half blanking Liberal 2-0 Tuesday evening at the Cornelsen Sports Complex. LHS had the wind in the first half but couldn’t do anything with it. The Buffaloes, who lead the WAC at 4-1 and won WAC last year, scored at the 25:05 and 18:34 marks of the second half. Garden led shots on goal 9-5.

Early in the second half, Liberal defender senior Henry Vela bumped heads going for a ball near the front of the Liberal goalie box. He was knocked unconscious and was taken by ambulance to Southwest Medical Center where he spent the night. Indications are that he will be OK but stayed in the hospital for observation to play it safely.

Liberal is 5-5 and 1-4 in the WAC while the Buffaloes are 6-3 and 4-1 in the WAC.

The Redskins host Hays Thursday with the varsity game at 1 p.m. at the Cornelsen Sports Complex.
