Liberal Girls Fall to Manhattan in Sub State Final

The Manhattan Lady Indians defeated the Liberal Lady Redskins 45-39 Friday night in the Big House. It was Liberal’s fourth straight loss in the sub state final while Manhattan makes state for the first time since 2018. It was the sixth time in eight years that LHS hosted a sub state final in the Big House.
The Lady Redskins took a 6-4 lead on a Kylie Rhine lay up. The Lady Indians used a 7-0 run to lead 11-6 after one. MHS led 19-12 before settling for a 19-16 lead at the half. Liberal committed 13 first half turnovers. LHS cut the lead to 21-20 on a Kylie Rhine runner. Manhattan buried three’s on the next two possessions to lead 27-20. Liberal trailed 29-26 before Manhattan’s Maxine Dearing drained a three to make the score 32-26 after three. The Lady Red cut the lead to 32-31 and 34-33 but couldn’t get over the hump to take a lead late.
Liberal may have lost the game at the foul line going 9-19 while Manhattan was 12-17. MHS made 5-13 from three point range and Liberal was 2-11 from three. Liberal committed 20 turnovers and MHS had 14. LHS dominated the glass 33-18.
Shamari Lewis registered her seventh double double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals. Kamilah Delgado had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kylie Rhine scored 8.
Manhattan is 12-10 and Liberal finishes 15-7.
