The Liberal Lady Redskins are one win away from an outright Western Athletic Conference title. The Liberal girls beat Garden City 63-35 Tuesday night in the Big House and Hays topped Dodge City 44-38 in Dodge City. Liberal is 6-1 and DCHS is 5-2 in the WAC going into Thursday night’s game in Liberal.
Liberal bolted out to big early leads of 6-0, 17-2, 22-4, and 22-6 after one quarter. In the second quarter, LHS led 26-6 and 31-11 before a 6-0 GCHS run made the score 31-17 at the half. Garden City cut the lead to 14 at 38-24 but the Lady Red responded to lead 46-26 and 49-28 after three. Liberal led by 33 at 61-28.
Liberal dominated the boards out rebounding GCHS 31-16. Liberal forced the Lady Buffaloes into 22 turnovers. Garden City had just one assist. Liberal shot 40 percent from the field and 7-15 from three while going 8-9 from the foul line. Garden shot 37 percent but had 12 less shots attempted than LHS. Garden City was 2-12 from three and 4-4 from the foul line.
Keyona Hall led the way with 22 points. Rylie Hallman scored a career high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. Hailey Contreras scored 11 and grabbed seven rebounds.
Liberal had won 17 of the last 18 against GCHS. The Lady Buffaloes are 6-14 overall and 2-6 in the WAC. Liberal is 16-2 overall and 6-1 in the WAC. Liberal hosts Dodge City Thursday night at 6pm with Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270 and 92.3 for Senior Night.
