The Liberal Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 910 S Kansas AVE on Thursday morning at 10:10 am.

First arriving units found the building being evacuated by store personnel. Store employees had attempted to put the fire out using portable fire extinguishers, prior to the arrival of the fire department. Firefighting efforts were concentrated on the area involved, which was isolated to a restroom. The fire was quickly extinguished and declared under control at 10:20 a.m. Firefighters remained on scene until 11:20 ventilating the building, checking for extension, and conducting their investigation into the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be a faulty exhaust fan in the restroom ceiling. No injuries are reported in the incident. The Liberal Fire Department responded to the incident with 13 firefighters, two engines, a ladder truck, and a squad vehicle. The Liberal Police Department and Seward County EMS responded to the incident as well.
