Firefighter Zachary Clifton was fatally injured in a car accident on the way to his wedding on June 2, 2006. Following this tragedy, his family graciously asked friends and family to make contributions to the Zachary Clifton Memorial Fund in care of the Liberal Fire Department. The funds were to be used to enhance firefighter safety. A library was chosen as the best way to utilize these funds so that firefighters could further educate themselves with an emphasis on safety. A new collection of firefighting books and DVDs has been purchased and are present in the library.
