The Liberal Redskins are 0-9 in the opening round of the Salina Invitational Tournament. That’s after a 62-39 loss to the Wichita South Titans Thursday afternoon at Salina South High School. The Redskins have been coming to the tournament since 2016. They are now 7-18 at the SIT.
The Titans took a 16-3 lead after one quarter. The Redskins showed some resilience late in the first half. The Titans led 31-7 before the Redskins used a 12-2 run to make it 33-19 South at the half.
Wichita South took control of the game in the second half leading 47-27 after three.
Liberal committed 21 turnovers in the loss.
Brooks Kappelmann led the Redskins with 12 points. Beto Torres was Epic Touch Player of the Game with a career high 10 points.
Wichita South is 4-5 and Liberal drops their seventh straight to fall to 3-7. It was the second meeting between the two after the Titans beat the Skins 76-44 December 16 at Wichita South. The Redskins play Salina South Friday night at 7:30 at Salina South on 1270 and 92.3.
