The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening for their regularly scheduled meeting and Recognized Lt. Dan Yorio upon his retirement after 26 years of service to the Liberal Police Department. A reception will be held in Lt. Yorio’s honor on Thursday from 2-4pm

During citizen comments, the Commission heard from citizens and the City’s engineer Pete Earles regarding the recent rains, flooding, and possible solutions to help alleviate future issues.

Commissioners approved amended changes to the Front Yard Parking Ordinance, adopted the 2017 Standard Traffic Ordinances, and the 2017 Public Offense Codes and approved the Housing Departments request for an inspector for the Rehab Grant if the grant is awarded.

The Commissioners also allocated another $30,000 to the 15th Street project to cover the unexpected costs incurred by water damage under the street  that needed repaired before finishing the street. The money came from the Streets, Drainage, and Capital Improvements portion of the one cent sales tax.

All 5 City Commissioners were designated Voting Delegates to the League of Kansas Municipalities annual meeting scheduled for September in Wichita.
