The Liberal City Commission met last night for their regularly scheduled meeting, and among the items on the agenda, commissioners approved the final plat for the Liberal Lodging addition. The commissions approval came without consent from the Kansas Department of Tranportation to the developers, to make the curb cuts on Highway 54 to have access to the property. The request to KDOT has been filed in Topeka and the developers are hoping to receive word soon. The commission told the developers to wait two weeks before they start the project, pending notification from KDOT on the request, however if they have not heard from Topeka, they may proceed with the project at their own risk. In other action, the commissioners approved a Tourism Grant request from the organizers of the Yellow Brick Road Car Show in the amount of $2,000.00. This money is to be used to advertise the event in other cities like Amarillo and Wichita. Commissioners also approved several purchases, a dump truck for the Water Department in the amount of $33,000.00, a bunker rake, which will assist in the maintainence of the 11 ball diamonds in Liberal, at a cost of$10,917.00, and a wheel loader for the Street Dpartment in the amount of $85,016.36. Commissioners also awarded the bid for the 2009 street sealing project to B & H Paving of Scott City not to exceed $289,536.00. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be after the elections on April 14th
