Liberal Blanks Great Bend in Home Opener

Playing at home for the first time this season, the Liberal Lady Red soccer team was greeted by blowing dust and rain to begin their game against Great Bend Thursday night.  But the turbulence continued even after the storm passed for the visiting Great Bend Panthers.  Liberal was dominant in a 6-0 win at Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex.

Arely Molina scored Liberal’s first goal.  Nicola Catalan scored on a direct kick with the south wind at her back for a 2-0 lead.  That was the halftime score.  Catalan found the back of the south net on a penalty kick to make it 3-0.  This came after a Great Bend hand ball in the goalie box.  Janelle Potter headed in a goal with 12:41 to play for the 4-0 lead.  Abbigail Lopez blasted a goal at the 7:29 mark for a 5-0 lead.  Karime Neave scored with 4:14 to play.

Great Bend is 1-5 and 0-3 in the WAC.  Liberal is 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the WAC.  Liberal travels to Dodge City on Tuesday.
