Dec 14 – Varsity Girls @ Olathe Northwest – Team 1st Place
Liberal High School delivered an impressive performance at the RavenMania wrestling tournament, highlighted by multiple top finishes. Champions included Keirsie Carlile (100), Genesis Orrantia (105),Isabella Gutierrez (110) and Hayleen Martinez (190). Isabella Gutierrez showed dominance in her weight class with five wins by fall. Alexa Valenzuela and Nicole Catala both secured 2nd-place finishes, contributing significant points to the team. Other notable performances included Liliana Santiago (135, 3rd), Evelyn Sandoval (155, 3rd), and Alexis Luna (120, 5th). Overall, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience across various weight classes, accumulating critical points through both championship victories and strong finishes.
Dec 13 & 14 – Varsity Boys @ Colby
2-5 in Dual Tournament taking 12th overall
The Liberal wrestling team faced intense competition in Colby. Despite challenges, they achieved notable victories, including a 36-33 win over Lawrence and close matches against McPherson and Lexington. Key individual performances included Julian Orrantia (126 lbs) and Brian Casas (113 lbs), who consistently secured wins through falls and technical superiority. Wyatt Mannel (165 lbs) and Fabian Delacruz (144 lbs) also contributed valuable points with multiple match victories. However, defeats against dominant teams like Pine Creek and Hutchinson highlighted areas for improvement. Overall, Liberal demonstrated determination and skill, with standout moments in a competitive pool.
Dec 14 – JV Boys @ Ulysses
The Liberal wrestling team delivered a solid performance at the 61st Annual Ron Smith Invitational. Highlights include Alan Padilla securing 1st place at JV 165 including multiple falls and a major decision. Oskar Rosales earned 2nd place at JV 215. Third-place finishes were achieved by Aaron Munoz (JV 126), Deven Hernandez (JV 138), Eric Duque (JV 165), and Manuel Rodriguez (JV 175), showcasing resilience and consistent victories. These efforts reflected a mix of strong wins and learning opportunities in a competitive tournament.
