Last year Liberal’s softball team went 4-17. This year’s softball team is 2-0. Liberal swept Colby at Colby Thursday afternoon and evening 17-2 and 14-2.
In game one, LHS scored three in the first but Colby answered with two. The Redskins countered with five in the second, four in the third, and five in the fourth. The game was called after four due to run rule. Liberal out-hit Colby 13-5. The Eagles committed five errors and Liberal had three. Zoey Torres pitched all four innings and did not allow an earned run. She had four strikeouts and one walk. Zoey Torres was 4-4 with three RBI’s. Allie Champion was 3-4 with three RBI’s. Lexi Miller was 2-4 with four RBI’s.
In game two, the teams were scoreless after one. LHS scored one in the second, five in the third, six in the fourth, and one in the fifth. The game went five innings due to run rule. Devaney Carter worked four strong innings allowing two runs with four strikeouts and two walks. Allie Champion worked a scoreless fifth. Zoey Torres was 3-4 with three RBI’s and four runs. Devaney Carter was 3-3 with two doubles. Lexi Miller was 2-4 with a home run and five RBI’s. Allie Champion also hit a round tripper. Taylor Harding, Miley Janko, and Haiden Lyon added two hits a piece.
