The Liberal High School softball team played two games as part of a triangular at McPherson on Tuesday afternoon.  Liberal lost 6-5 to McPherson and 15-0 to Maize.

In the McPherson game, the Bullpups scored four runs in the first.  The Redskins plated a run in the second.  Mac took a 5-1 lead with a run in the fourth.  LHS rallied with three in the fifth to make it 5-4.  LHS scored a run in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.  McPherson hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh to win 6-5.  McPherson out-hit Liberal 11-9.  Liberal had three errors and McPherson did not commit an error.  Jenna Ormiston pitched for Liberal with three strikeouts and one walk.  Taylor Harding and Maedeen McClure had two hits a piece.  McClure had two doubles and Harding had one.  McClure drove home two.  McPherson is now 7-1 after beating Maize later in the evening.

In Liberal’s second game, they were blown out by Maize 15-0 in three innings.  The Eagles scored 14 in the second inning.  Maize out-hit Liberal 16-2.  Maize is 5-4.

Coach Tom McClure’s comments:

“We played a great game 1 on lost it on a shot to left field. Game two we faced a team that was built for power but had holes on defense and pitching. Unfortunately we did not get into the game.”

Liberal is 0-6 and plays at Hugoton on Friday.
