LHS Soccer Coach Sees Improvement in LHS Girls

Luis Aguilar likes what he sees. Even though his team is 1-3, he sees an improved LHS girls soccer team. In his first year as head coach, the Redskins were 4-12 but return six starters this year.

Liberal won on penalty kicks at Guymon before losses at the Wichita South Titan Classic 4-1 to Hutchinson, 1-0 to Campus, and 3-2 to Great Bend.

Aguilar is an assistant to Lori Navarro in the LHS boys program and remembers when the Redskin boys were 2-5 before winning the program’s first state championship in November.

Liberal’s returning starters are: senior forward Karina Vazquez; senior forward Mayra Moreno; junior defender Elizabeth Franco; junior midfielder Joanna Campos; junior midfielder Alejandra Hernandez; and sophomore goalie Magoli Vazquez. Aguilar also expects contributions from sophomore midfielder Yanira Ruiz and sophomore defender Cindy Amaya.

Liberal hosts Great Bend Tuesday at the Cornelsen Sports Complex. The varsity game has been moved up to 4 p.m. due to expected inclimate weather later Tuesday.
