Rogers takes over a Redskin basketball program which has struggled recently.  They have endured a program high six straight losing seasons.  The Redskins were 2-19 in 2022-23 and 4-17 in 2021-22.  Liberal hasn’t had a winning season since 2017 when they were 18-3.  In terms of varsity experience, LHS returns Jr. Zayden Martinez (14p, 11r), Jr. Brooks Kappelmann (8p, 6r),  Fr. James Fieser (9p, 3r), Jr. Carson Chamberlain (4p),  Jr. Adan Mata (2p, 3a), Jr. Gianni Calvillo, and Jr. Geo Garcia.

LHS activities director Kerri Miles says LHS is excited about the hire.  “Coach Rogers will be a key addition to the Liberal High School coaching staff.  The coaching experience he has will help build a positive culture for boys basketball at Liberal High School.  Coach Rogers is also a proven winner and I look forward to working with him to help grow the basketball program.  The interview team was impressed with coach Rogers knowledge of basketball and his ability to create strong, hard working relationships with students and his players.”

Rogers says he is excited to coach the Redskins.  “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead the boys basketball program at Liberal High School.  My family and I look forward to the opportunities that the community of Liberal has to offer.  As a southwest Kansas kid, I can remember the pace of play that was associated with Liberal High .  It’s time to get back to that pace.”
