Liberal High School looked to a fellow class 5A school for their next head wrestling coach. The LHS Athletic Director Rollie Van Wyhe announced Wednesday afternoon that Kyle Molina is the next coach. He replaces Matt Sleder who stepped down after the season. Molina has been an assistant coach at Bishop Carroll the past six seasons. He has also been an assistant football coach at Carroll the past five years coaching freshmen and wide receivers.
He replaces Matt Sleder who was head wrestling coach at LHS for three years. Sleder leaves to move closer to family. Sleder’s Redskins were 2-2 in the WAC this season and took 16th at state led by state champion Sergio Borjas who was Liberal’s first state champ in wrestling since 2011. LHS took four wrestlers to state in 2014 and no wrestlers went to state the season before. Liberal sent six wrestlers to state in 2015 and returns five of them next season. Chris Boman, Victor Monarrez, Adrian Orozco, Greg McClurg, and Josh Martinez return next season after making state. Molina met with the LHS team Wednesday afternoon.
Molina is native of Carthage, Missouri. He is a former 160 pound state champion in the Show Me State.
