LHS Coach Says Attitude Change Key to Weight Room Success

Liberal’s Caleb Cline knows what it takes to be successful at LHS. Cline watched Redskin teams win state football and track championships with regularity as a young boy while his father Mike Cline coached with Gary Cornelsen. He helped the Angry Red win a couple of state track championships and win a lot of football games. Now he is cracking the collective whip in the weight room where Liberal’s athletes clearly have lagged behind in recent years.

Cline worked with athletes from all sports this summer in the school’s "Bigger, Faster, and Stronger" program and saw gains.

The Redskins worked on improving their vertical jumps and their times in 20’s and 40’s. But they testing came in five core lifts. Combining gains in the bench press, squat, power clean, incline, and towel bench. Cristian Torres went up 130 pounds. The average was about a 55 to 65 pound gain. Female average gains were about 25 to 35 pounds gained.

Cline also talks about attendance at the Fun Runs and hopes to keep that tradition going. To hear the interview, click on the audio icon.
