LHS Boys Tennis not Short on State Experience

Four Liberal High School tennis players competed at 6A state last May.  Hudson Brown graduated and is now in the tennis program at Tabor.  But the other three participants return to the Redskins for the spring of 2024.  That experience coupled with some young new talent, and 2nd year head coach David Short and the Redskins have lofty goals.  They have changed their schedule and will head east even more often than usual to try to simulate regionals.

There are 12 boys out for tennis going into the opener Wednesday at Valley Center.   Freshman Quinn Brown opens the season at number one singles.  His speed and athleticism will aid him as he begins his high school career.  Short says Sr. Jackson Dodge was the program’s most improved player as a junior.  He will begin the season at number two singles but could bump up to one as the season goes along.  Sr. Daniel Nguyen teamed with Hudson Brown in number one doubles last year to take 2nd at regionals and win a match at state.  Jr. Parker Brown and Jr. Emmanuel Garcia teamed to going 3-1 at regionals and make state as sophomores.  To begin this season, Parker Brown will team with Daniel Nguyen in number one doubles.  Emmanuel Garcia and Sr. Jovanni Garcia will play at number two doubles to open the season.  The length of sophomore Ryan Zhang will be an interesting option for the Redskins as the season moves a long.

Liberal’s only home match this season is the WAC Tournament.  The teams was featured during Sportsguys Tuesday morning.
