Lady Skin Upset Bid Falls Short

Liberal had chances to hand second ranked class 3A Cimarron their first loss of the season. LHS head coach Bill Baird bemoaned too many missed layups underneath the basket. Also Cimarron shot 30 free throws compared to Liberal’s eight. Cimarron survived a scare in the Big House edging the Lady Redskins 45-40.
Cimarron led 14-5 after one quarter and built a 28-12 lead before going ice cold. Liberal chipped away at the Lady Bluejay lead and trailed 28-19 at the half. Liberal trailed 32-25 at the end of three quarters. An Ali Lucero three pointer with 30 seconds left brought Liberal to within three (43-40). Fouls favored Cimarron as Liberal’s leading scorer and rebounder Jada Mickens fouled out and Cimarron was 18-30 at the foul line and Liberal was 4-8. Mickens scored nine to lead the Lady Redskins. Liberal committed 20 turnovers in the loss. Liberal held Cimarron’s Morgan Ediger to 11 points using a box in one. She averages 20 points per game.
Cimarron is 18-0 and Liberal is 3-14. Liberal hosts homecoming Saturday night with the girls game at 6 and coverage at 5:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
