Lady Saints Sunk in Second Semester Opener

The wasn’t the start to the second semester that the Seward Lady Saints envisioned.  The Lady Saints trailed by 13 at the half, rallied to lead, then saw the Colby Lady Trojans finish strongly as Seward lost 65-59 Monday afternoon at the Colby Events Center.

Colby was the aggressor in the first half leading points in the paint 18-2.  The Lady Trojans led 19-10 after one and 34-21 at halftime.  Seward played their best basketball of the afternoon in the third quarter out-pacing CCC 23-13 in the third.  The game was tied at 41-41 before Seward fouled Colby on a three point shot.  Seward led 51-50 in the fourth quarter but Colby went on an 8-0 run to lead 58-51.  Colby led 63-54 before SCCC trimmed the lead to 63-59.

Colby shot 45 percent from the field and made 7-15 from three point range.  The Lady Saints shot just 31 percent and made 7-28 from three point range.  SCCC out-rebounded  Colby 32-27.

Kezia Grant-Bobb was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 13 points and six rebounds.  Kylee Hunt scored 13 and Avery Marchino added 11.

Colby beats the Lady Saints for a second straight year at the Oasis after SCCC had won 18 in a row there.  Colby is 10-5 overall and 5-4 in the Jayhawk.  Seward falls to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in the Jayhawk.  Seward hosts Independence Wednesday night at 5:30 on 107.5.  La Mexicana is the buyout sponsor with tickets at Billy’s, BrickHouse, and State Farm Aaron Knudsen.
