Missed layups? There were many. Seward struggled to execute basketball’s most basic play as their offensive woes continued in a 53-48 loss to Garden City in the Green House Wednesday night. It was Sophomore Night for six Lady Saints. Seward shot 22 percent in the loss.
The Lady Busters jumped all over Seward 17-4 and led 17-7 after one quarter. GCCC led 27-11 at halftime. Garden City didn’t let up their defense in the second half taking a lead of 31-15. It was 37-25 after three. Seward trailed 48-36 with 3:46 to play and trailed 50-42 with 1:25 to go. A Chloe Burnham steal and lay up made it 50-46. Seward pulled to within two at 50-48 with 28 seconds left. But Seward did not score again.
Seward was 15-67 from the field for 22 percent. SCCC was 4-21 from three and 14-17 from the free throw line. Garden City shot 40 percent going 22-55. GCCC won despite a 1-20 game from three. The Lady Busters were 8-14 from the foul line. Seward out-rebounded GCCC 46-44. Garden City committed 21 turnovers and Seward committed 14. Garden City led points in the paint 36-22.
Kylee Hunt was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 17. Chloe Burnham scored 10. Garden City wins at the Green House for a fifth straight year. Garden City is 13-16 and 10-14 in the Jayhawk. Seward drops their third straight and is 19-11 overall and 14-10 in the KJCCC. Seward hosts Pratt in the Green House Saturday on 107.5.
